Today is Sunday. Last Daily Pixel was on Sunday. That’s a week, my friends. 7 days. A week of no ‘Daily’ Pixels. This past week has been spent tying up loose ends on a few fun projects for a few fun people, so I’ve had to squeeze the week of ‘Daily’ Pixels into an evening. […]
I celebrated the return of my computer machine by making it crunch a bunch of numbers with this ridiculous render. Playing with lights and SSS in Blender and using only one shape (repeated). The end result looks like a very crazy bonus level from Sonic. The colors are a bit off from the original document, […]
All this week and especially today I’ve been plagued by headaches. Most likely caused by lack of caffeine, these are of the ‘thunderstorm-in-my-brain’ variety. Moving is an art – I don’t want to disrupt the thinking machine in its tank too much, and it’s rather like keeping a ship steady in rough waters. Or at […]
Today’s Daily Pixel (a bit waaheyheyhey late) is an 3D isometric render from Blender, colored in Photoshop. Pretty straightforward. I’ve been playing with 3D space as building blocks lately, and this is what popped out of my imagination. I definitely see this style developing further, perhaps when I allot more than 1 hour a whole […]
Hey! Happy First of the Month! Here is a little Daily Pixel to start things off right in the ‘Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit’ tradition. This wasn’t the first thing I made today, but I did say the superstitious phrase first thing this morning, so I either boosted my luck or else diminished good returns. Time […]
Today’s Daily Pixel is a very over-done concept. I’ve never drawn an esoteric figure before, and today was as good as any to give it a whirl, which I did. There was a huge period of forced mindfullness (if there is such a thing) in drawing the myriad lines.
I tried something a bit different for today’s Daily Pixel. Lately I’ve been doing quite a few ‘realistic’ drawings and paintings, both on canvas and with Photoshop. I’ve also been updating the animated Daily Pixel, from which these stills were taken. It was a nice break to work with simple abstract forms and colors, not […]
Hello all and welcome to another Daily Pixel. Today, I finished the latest iteration of the shirt design for “Lowly, The Tree Ghost.” If you want to see previous versions and work-throughs, check out this post here. Feedback is wonderful, as is ice cream and coffee. Check ya later!
Here is a still from today’s animated Daily Pixel! Focus: working with white and white space. The Vimeo link will be up and running as soon as the piece is out of the rendering oven. Updates: Here is a sketch of a new reel intro. I make those a lot. I may or may not […]
Typography is one of those areas I never specifically “studied,” devoting more time to nerdy games and such. When dealing with square, block and pixel fonts, the whole wide world of intricate typefaces is overwhelming. I love my 4×4 pixel “Eichante.” But it’s time to grow up, suit up, and put on the heels. Occasionally. […]
I’ve been working on some brand-spankin-new identity cards lately, and wanted to share some progress. I’m trying to find and work with the ugliest, most un-pairable colors. So far it reminds me of Bubble Yum, half-digested cat food, Mario Teaches Typing and shoddy photocopiers. Needless to say I kinda dig it. I’ll be posting more […]
Hey ya! Today’s Daily Pixel is a bit, um, twisted. I forgot how fun it is to make sick, mad, bent and warped pictures! Anyway, it’s summertime, which means lots of people go to such things as music festivals. A lot of other people go camping. Some people do both and then some. Most people […]
Hey! Here is an experiment. Last weekend was full of family, food, fireworks and…water. This is a test render from one of the underwater/nighttime shoots with the GoPro, a 2 Million Candle flashlight, and an old dollar-store scarf. Shot at 60fps, underwater. Testing out some ideas for a ‘fireworks’ – type video. Cheers! Audio: “Carpe” […]
Finally! Something to hang on grandma’s fridge.Actually, I’ve been on a learning-things binge lately – started working on coding a media player (? html 5 ?) and doing some real-life paintings. Between the books and the brushes, I feel like a comic-book victim with a massive migraine to-boot! (maybe the over-articulation in some aspects of […]
Well, I finally finished another sketchbook! I love chronicling ideas and the like in book form, and have an entire case full of sketches, storyboards, and miscellany already. Most of the books read like, well books, with meticulously dated entries. After each book is complete, I put a “table of contents” in the front cover. […]
Today’s Daily Pixel is another experiment in adding constraints. In addition to the 1 hour time limit, I also choose to invert the final image, both in space and in color. I did not check to see if the inverted colors would work together, but I ended up sort of liking them all the same. […]
Today’s breakfast was awesome – I got to make-believe I was a super-human giant eating one healthy serving of City. I can’t help it. I’ve never been able to look at a plate of food without making up a story about it, as evidenced by today’s Daily Pixel. The blueberry buildings were especially tasty!
There is nothing that says ’90 degree Summer day’ like knitting a heavy woolen cowl in the blistering sun, which is exactly what I’ve been doing – Winter season starts soon, so it’s time to gear up! Today’s post is one of the product layouts that I’ve been testing for Glitch Stitch in 2011. Whereas before everything […]
I learned something of great value today: “Don’t set-up shop by the refreshment stand at the park around noon.” This is due, mainly, to the herds of children bent on getting their after-lunch sugar-rush. Initially, that’s no so bad. The shaving cream hits the fan when the sugar hits the bloodstream of the aforementioned masses. […]
So, today was a bit different. It started with a lack of pen. Not just any pen (although I didn’t have any other writing utensils at the time either) but a Precise V5 pen. I know, not the “Gasp!” “Shock!” “Horror!” from B-movies, but it was enough to prompt a field trip. Huntington Beach was […]
Hello and Welcome to another Daily Pixel! Today I am sharing some progress I’ve made with the Blender Game Engine. Actually, this post should just be called “Why I Love Blender:” 1. Got a character rigged, set up with actions, etc, using the NLA editor. I’ve not really used that before, but I’m really glad […]
The weather is finally starting to turn, which is great news for boathers, bikers, and beachgoers. Unfortunately I do not let my computer play in the sun, so these upcomming daily pixels will be done in the wee hours of the morning, before the day is truely started. With less than an hour for each, […]
Today’s Daily Pixel is a stillf frame from a mashup of Blender Renders. I usually UV my meshes to the point of no return, but this experiment was…liberating. One material (with different opacities) for everything in the scene, and every element is a plane (excluding the particle array) Perhaps my favorite part of this scene […]
Today was awesome for the following reasons: 1.) There was no rain 2.) I went to see the Tribe play at the Jake (well, technically Progressive Field) 3.) We (Cleveland) won 4.) The Jake was packed to capacity! I have not seen the stadium like this since 1995. I was feeling so nostalgic that I […]
