This year I participated in Cleveland’s Give Camp, which is a 48 hour volunteer event where artists, developers, etc. give their weekends to help develop new websites for local non-profits.
Our team was tasked with making the event’s first ever video game. Many in our group had done 48-hour Global Game Jams before, so this was an old hat :D
The object of this game was to compliment Veggie U’s work in school classrooms. They work with students and teachers to show the importance of vegetables in a diet, and show students how to grow their own at home. Part of the program is using worms to make compost. This game allows students to compost from a worm’s perspective – choosing the right foods to digest and help the plants grow!
My role was enviromental elements (backgrounds, textures, tiles, plants, seeds) UI boxes and design, “Wiggles” design, pretty much everything you see onscreen. I worked with one other designer (Shawn Gray) who designed the “Worm” font and edible foods, and a 3D animator (Michael Solomon) who knocked out the ending animation in only 2 days!
There are some really -great- sound effects.
